About this Work of Art ~
"A
View from the Hill"
was created by Laszlo Tar in 1972. It is a colorful fall day
in historic Central Park, New York
City and Laszlo Tar is painting on one of the rock hills near
5th Avenue and in the low 60's. The
view is south, toward Central Park South, with the distinctive (green
roofed) old Hampshire House Hotel standing tall. Along with
the beautiful colors, there is something very romantic and loving
about this painting - with the man, his child and dog standing
at the front and center. Mr. Tar loved painting in Central Park and
he would go there often to explore and find his spot of
artistic reflection. On this day he captures a unique and wonderful moment
in this very fresh and painterly work.
The
original is a watercolor and gouache painting created on Italian Fabriano
Artistico paper. Drawings by Michelangelo and Raphael
executed on papers from Fabriano still hang in museums and
are a testament to the quality of Fabriano paper. This very
fine paper has the watermark "C.M.
FABRIANO - 100/100 COTTON" along both edges and when visible
on the original painting, these watermarks are
also clearly evident on our print images. Paper watermarks
are used as date reference points by historians, collectors
and appraisers and because our prints are exact replicas of
the original work, the visible watermarks on the original are
also reproduced on the print. Mr. Tar primarily used two types
of paper for his original watercolors. One is Fabriano Artistico
(Italian) and the other is Arches (French). Both manufacturers
include watermarks on
their papers.
