Gallery Notes, PodCAST & WeBLOG
Gallery Notes is a brief audio discussion series where we post short interviews related to our art, artist, collectors and the gallery. It's sort of like The Gallery Radio Show, with short 2-6 minute segments. The latest Gallery Notes posting is always displayed at the Gallery entrance page and all past postings are available in the Gallery Notes section. In addition, audio interviews and further discussions are posted at our new PodCAST and WeBLOG, where listeners can post comments.
PodCASTs can be subscribed to using Apple's iTunes (search for Laszlo Tar) and both WeBLOGs and PodCASTs can be subscribed to using MyYahoo and other popular Internet news collectors. So our postings will show up right in your favorite Internet home page site.

Visit to the Matisse Exhibit at The Metropolitan Museum of Art
by: Julius Tar
The
Metropolitan Museum
of Art, located in New York City is certainly one of the most wonderful
museums in the world and through September 25, 2005, it is made even
more wonderful with the Henri Matisse exhibit, entitled Matisse:
The Fabric of Dreams His Art and His Textiles. In August, we
had an opportunity to visit this exhibit with Laszlo Tar. It is always
a more unique experience to go to any fine art venue with an artist,
because not only do you experience the exhibit itself - which in this
case is quite extraordinary - but you also gain meaningful insights
from the visiting artist and his views about the exhibit and the exhibiting
artist. Such was the case during our visit.
For
Laszlo Tar, Henri Matisse is a giant among artists and this unique exhibit
brings together some of his most wonderful and colorful paintings along
with the fabrics and costumes he actually used in the works he created.
In Laszlo Tar's own words, as he shared with us at the exhibit; "He
was an amazing colorist. He was doing what I am doing and what I love
to do. Unlike Picasso, who was much more of a drawer, Matisse was untouchable
in his ability to bring colors together in powerful combinations".
Unquestionably, the works shown at this exhibit, many created in the
1920s and 1930s, must have been truly amazing in their time. Even today,
some 80 years later they are so brilliant and alive with color - it
is really quite stunning. In his time, works by Henri Matisse were described
as "Decorative" by his contemporaries and art critics - and
this was generally not considered a compliment. Matisse, however was
pleased that his works were considered decorative, since he - as does
Laszlo Tar - felt that ALL art should be fundamentally decorative in
nature. As we walked through the exhibit, I could see how Laszlo Tar
could associate his work and style with that of Matisse, in particular
with his own watercolor still-lifes
- which are equally as powerful and full of harmonic color.
This
is truly a wonderful exhibit indeed, and if you have the time and
proximity to get to the Met, prior to September 25, 2005, we would
strongly encourage you to take it in. The
Metropolitan Museum of Art is located at 82nd Street and Fifth
Avenue. For those unable to attend, there is an associated book published
and available in the museum shop, on-line.

CELEBRATING
OUR YEARS...
In
1995 we established and launched the Laszlo Tar Art Gallery and TIS
PublishingT. Our first gallery (exclusively on
the Internet) had just twelve New York City paintings and very little
else. We have certainly come a long way since then; however, our commitment
to the vision set forth at the very start has never changed nor been
stronger. It was then as it is now, very simply - "To promote
the broad appreciation of Laszlo Tar's art and to offer his art for
personal ownership through a well-managed exclusive gallery and publishing
firm, backed by a sincere dedication to customers, delivering services
that are the best in the world." You may be interested
to know that 100% of our sales revenue goes right back into making this
mission a reality. We are not a high volume gallery, representing numerous
artists, nor will you find our art at any street shop. Our idea was
always, and remains, to keep strict control of the art to ensure authenticity
and offer exclusivity to our collectors. Our customers know that they
are dealing directly with the artist and through his family and that
this proximity has meaningful long term value. Over the years, numerous
galleries and large distributors have asked to carry Laszlo Tar's art,
but again and again we have turned them away, simply because we did
not sense a degree of devotion that was in line with our mission. Each
and every visitor, customer and every order that we package is something
so very special and precious to us and we try to demonstrate that in
everything that we do. The feedback that we receive is cherished like
a treasure and reaffirms that as a family we are doing the right thing.
Thank you for your continued support as we celebrate this wonderful
milestone.

LICENSING: CITY MEALS ON WHEELS...
During the
2004 holidays, the Laszlo Tar Art Gallery and CityMeals-On-Wheels,
a New York City charity organization delivering nutritious
food and human company to homebound elderly, entered into a licensing
agreement whereby CityMeals-On-Wheels
would be allowed to use the imagery of "Skaters",
a winter watercolor by Laszlo Tar, in a 5x7 inch holiday card with
a total distribution of 25,000. The cards where sold in packs of five
for $25 per pack. The proceeds from each sold card pack were used
to deliver five meals to needy individuals during the holidays. The
demand for these cards was so great, that they sold out two weeks
prior to the Christmas and New Year holidays and needless to say,
we were honored to be a part of this successful and worthy cause!
Each
card included a short holiday message, as well as information about
the artwork, artist and our gallery website copyrights.

Open Edition Prints of Oil Pastel & Ink Drawings...
Many
visitors express interest in Laszlo Tar's oil
pastel and ink
drawings. On any given day, of the 50 to 100 visitors to our gallery,
roughly 20 will spend time in the Oil Pastel or Ink Drawing exhibit
and many of them have sent us encouraging comments and requests for
prints. These
wonderful and unique works of art are colorful and expressive. They
capture the social mood of cosmopolitan life in New York City and represent
a special love that Laszlo Tar has for figures. Mr. Tar would often
walk the streets, either with his easel or drawing pad, and stop to
capture a scene that moved him. His oil pastel and ink drawings are
filled with his personal inspiration and they are the perfect compliment
to his New York City paintings as they focus on a single social setting,
versus a larger view. We are very pleased to announce the release of
our new Signed Open Edition Prints of Oil
Pastel and Ink
Drawings.

The
new Open Edition prints are produced completely in-house and personally
inspected then pencil signed by the artist. Each print is accompanied
by a signed Certificate of Authenticity. An Open Edition print is one
where there is no limit to the number produced. (We anticipate creating
no greater than 500 of any given print.) These fine prints are
Giclées, produced on the same heavy (300 gsm) 100% cotton paper
that we use for our larger editions. A typical image size is 7 x 8.5
inches and the paper size is roughly 10.5 x 13 inches. The prints are
sold unframed but fully mounted and matted on thick 6-ply museum quality
white archival matting. The full matt size is 11x14 inches, making for
easy framing using a standard 11x14 inch frame (as shown above)
to match your personal taste. Each print arrives mounted and matted
in a clear archival sleeve, for convenient storage and handling.

Lifetime Satisfaction Guarantee!...
Do
you ever wish that more things in your life came with a lifetime satisfaction
guarantee? One where if you just wanted to return it, you could - for
whatever reason - no questions asked. We do too. And we thought that
if there was ever a business that could deliver on such a promise with
full confidence and sincerity, it had to be ours - where the product
and business are so tightly and passionately coupled - we are the
family of the artist.
We
stand behind our art and with our customers. The most important thing
to us, is that you are happy with your purchase. Maybe the artwork that
you are buying will be given as a gift a few weeks or months from now,
or the room that you bought it for is not quite ready yet. Or a year
from now, the artwork simply doesn't fit your needs and you want to
trade it in for something different. Regardless of the circumstance,
we want you to be happy and we want you to know that we respect your
decision! If for any reason you become dissatisfied with your purchase,
simply return it to us (undamaged) along with your original receipt
and certificate of authenticity and we will fully refund your original
purchase price or make a full value exchange toward another of our products
- no questions asked. This is a non-transferable guarantee,
meaning it is only valid for the original owner -
our auditors forced us to include this one limitation.
To read the full details, click on the 100% Satisfaction Guarantee graphic,
shown here and throughout our gallery.
This
is one of the great benefits of dealing with a family owned gallery!
