Caring
For Your
Fine Artwork
ur
Originals and Limited Edition fine art prints represent many years
of careful research and development. Only the finest inks and 100%
acid-free paper and canvas have been used.
The artwork must be handled with care to retain investment
value. By following a few simple care guidelines, your artwork will
not only remain valuable but will also offer you many years of pleasure
and companionship. Be sure to also read our How to Frame procedure!
~
Basic Care Guidelines ~
- Light
Do not hang your art in
strong sunlight.
Sunlight, both direct and
indirect is rich in ultraviolet rays and therefore, harmful to paper
or canvas as well as to certain inks and colors. Rooms where art is
to be hung should have diffused daylight and be illuminated with incandescent
lighting, which is relatively harmless. When hanging art in areas
with strong (direct) sunlight, use an ultraviolet shielded facing.
- Humidity
Avoid hanging art on damp
walls.
Relative humidity above
70% encourages mildew or "foxing" on paper and canvas. If
the humidity in your area exceeds 70% for periods of the year, dehumidify
or air condition rooms where works of art are hung. Stick-on rubber
wall protectors, installed on the back of frames encourages air circulation
and will help reduce mildew. Ask your framer for these inexpensive
items.
- Pollution
Be sure that your artwork
is properly sealed when framed.
A properly sealed frame
will greatly reduce exposure to harmful atmospheric pollution. Check
the Framing Procedure section for
more information.
- Cleaning
Never
Spray a Cleaning Agent on or near the Art, Facing or Frame.
The actual artwork
must never come in contact with a cleaning agent of any kind! Avoid
touching the inked area of your art completely! For the facing and
frame, lightly apply the cleaning agent to a soft cloth (do
not soak) and then carefully clean the given area.
Plexiglas & Plastics
Generally glass facing is used for art, however for
situations where safety is a concern Plexiglas or Lexan plastic facing
may also be used.
DO NOT USE WINDEX OR ANY
AMMONIA/DETERGENT CLEANER ON PLEXIGLAS.
Plexiglas must
not be cleaned with window cleaning agents. Doing so will
destroy the translucence of the plastic as well as cause it to warp.
To remove dust, use a light soft lint-free cloth, then wipe with
a wet cloth or chamois. Heavy grease and oil may be removed with
a light application of kerosene or aliphatic naphtha (with no aromatic
content). Minor scratches may be removed or reduced through an application
of polish.
